‘Yasumi Ramen‘ has truly stepped up their game since my last visit in June 2022. As a Ramen aficionado and lover of Japanese cuisine, I couldn’t resist giving their new menu additions a try, especially after hearing that they put in a whopping 9 hours of preparation into making their signature broth.

The first bowl I tried was the ‘Beef Black Garlic Ramen’ (SR. 65), and it was an absolute delight. The creamy chicken and Dashi broth, flavoured with Yasumi’s special black garlic, was a burst of umami goodness. Topped with tender beef chashu, shimeji mushrooms, scallions, a whole Ajitama (seasoned egg), and Naruto, and served with thin noodles, it was a flavour explosion. The seasoned beef and the hints of garlic in the broth elevated the experience.

Next up, I gave the ‘Chicken Black Garlic Ramen’ (SR. 52) a whirl. This one featured the same luscious chicken and Dashi broth with Yasumi’s black garlic, but it came with chicken chashu and thick noodles. The chicken felt a little dry and might have been slightly overcooked. While it didn’t surpass the beef version for me, it was still a hearty and flavourful bowl of Ramen.

For a change of pace, we also ordered a ‘Chicken Teriyaki’ Rice Bowl (SR. 47). The roasted teriyaki chicken, served on a bed of warm rice and seasoned with sesame seeds, was a delicious alternative to the Ramen. It had that perfect sweet and savoury balance you expect from teriyaki though it could have done with a bit more sauce. If sweet isn’t your thing, then make sure to add a dash of chilli oil.

We couldn’t resist trying some of their appetizers. The Chicken Karaage was flavourful and crispy, and the Shrimp Tempura was light and airy, but a tad pricey for just four pieces. The soy-based sauce that came with the tempura was a delightful complement.

Yasumi Ramen has not only maintained its status as a dedicated Ramen shop but has also improved on an already great menu. If you’re in Dhahran and love Japanese cuisine, this place is a must-visit. Their attention to detail and the new menu additions makes it a Ramen lover’s paradise.
