Outstanding Smash Patty Burgers at ’88PORT’ – Al Khobar

Located on the route to Half Moon, ‘88PORT’ Burger shop in Aziziyah, Khobar has some crazy good smash patty burgers that are worth checking out. The burgers are priced quite decently, and the dark gloomy interiors are surprisingly quite cozy. The staff are friendly, and the service was quick. We were told that everything from the pickles to the bun is made in house which made the wait even more exciting.

We ordered a few of their burgers and some items from their share plate menu.

The charring on the burger is ‘Immaculate’

1. ‘Triple BBQ Burger’ (9.5 / 10 – SR. 33): This Burger should be on top of your list of burgers to order. There are 3 smashed Angus Beef patties in this burger with crispy outer edges and further charred to add a ton of flavour to an already great burger. Love the cheese and the saltiness it lends to the patty. Also, this has Onion rings added into the mix for that extra crunch.

The Signature Red Bun is quite Vivid.

2. ’88Port Burger’ (8.5 / 10 – SR. 29): This is also quite like the previous burger but with one less patty. Smashed patty and their in-house pickle combination is a winner. The burger looks Instagram worthy with their signature red bun.

3. ‘Honey Sriracha Crispy’ (8/10 – SR. 31): This burger packs some light heat, and the crispy chicken patty is drenched in a slightly sweet peach sauce, topped with cheese and coleslaw. I would have liked this to be a bit spicier though but that’s just my opinion.

4. ‘Brisket Fries’ (8/10 – SR. 29) – There is a lot going on with these fries with a ton of cheese and dried beef brisket topping that makes for a decent snack. It could have done with a bit more sauce and don’t wait too long to have this since the cheese hardens quickly. The potatoes are also prepped in house and that shows.

These ‘Brisket Balls’ are loaded with cheese more than meat.

5. ‘Brisket Ball’ (9 / 10 – SR. 23) – This is good value for money since this is filled with brisket and cheese and served with a side of cheesy sauce. Biting into this, releases a whole lot of cheese and I must say I really enjoyed it.

6. ‘Buffalo Shrimp’ (7 / 10 – SR. 31) – This was ok, albeit a bit too sweet for my liking. The sauce does balance it out, but they should consider adding some spice to it in the form of cayenne or some peppers.

These wings need a bit of work done.

7. ’88Port Wings’ (6 / 10 – SR. 31) – I didn’t enjoy the wings that much since it felt it had been overdone (over fried) and too limited in portion. The garlic bits could have been crispier and overall, I would pass on this menu item.

Overall, the experience was fantastic, and we had food fit enough for 3-4 people for less than SR. 200.  Making the trip just for their smash burgers alone is totally worth it.
