I feel that grills in Qatif gain their inspiration from Grill Shops in Bahrain or vice versa because what they serve is very similar to each other in terms of taste and pricing, though this place stands out for being a much more affordable option.
In today’s episode of ‘Food with Friends’, I am joined by ‘Farhaan Mirza’ and ‘Kamran Syed’ for dinner at ‘Sabar Ayoob’ in the kingdom of Bahrain and I have to thank these guys for recommending an absolute gem. They have been going on about me trying this place out for the longest time and it was one hell of a call.

I think we pretty ordered every grill menu item,
1. Lemon Tikka – SR. 10 ⭐️
2. Yogurt Tikka – SR. 10
3. Ayoob Tikka – SR. 10
4. Chicken Tikka – SR. 10
5. Iraqi Kebab – SR. 20 ⭐️
6. Riyash – SR. 40 ⭐️
7. Roast Neck – SR. 35 🔥
8. Hummus – SR. 6
My best recommendations out of the lot have been starred and these really stand out for their amazing flavour.

The ‘Roast Neck’ stole my stomach with its flavour packed, tender meat that almost felt like it was smoked (maybe it was). The flavours were exquisite and this portion of the neck packs a lot of meat surprisingly. This has to be on top of your list when you visit this place.

My 2nd favourite was the ‘Iraqi Kebab’ with its well marinated meat grilled to perfection and still retaining the perfect amount of moisture. This Sumac seasoned treat is a must try.

The Riyash (aka Lamb Chops) had a very unique taste and hint of lemon though slightly on the charred side but that adds to the flavour. Slightly on the drier side though but i’m not complaining.

The ‘Lemon Tikka’ was tender and not too bitter and I feel most places screw up the preparation but this place had it right. This was also Farhaan’s favourite dish and we ordered 3 full plates of it.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the ‘Chicken Tikka’ since it does not match up to the standard of the meat in terms of flavour. It is well done though but a bit weak on the seasoning. The ‘Yogurt Tikka’ was just ok and can’t stand up to the flavours of the Roast Neck and Lemon Tikka. I would recommend sticking to the meats to avoid disappointment.
If you are in Bahrain next time and craving some grills, then ‘Sabar Ayoob’ is the place to go. They do have multiple branches but I would recommend sticking to the one mentioned below.
A special thanks to Farhaan for footing the bill and treating me to a fantastic meal!
