Where to go for “COFFEE” in the city of Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia

I had a very late introduction to Coffee, but I have made up for lost time and enjoy the current coffee scene that is taking over Saudi Arabia. Coffee is a great way to unwind after a long day at work, fun with friends or a drink that can give you that much needed push to kick-start your day. Over the last 4 – 5 years, a whole host of coffee shops have opened up and it can be quite overwhelming for a coffee connoisseur.

That being said, here are a few of my favourite coffee shops located in the city of Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia.

BE PREPARED TO BE SPOILT FOR CHOICE….

THE GEEKS CAFE

‘The Geeks Cafe’

I first came across @thegeeks.sa thanks to @thefoodiemak, Sharqiya’s very own coffee connoisseur.
It was close to prayer time and I made it just in time to order a “Vanilla Latte” (SR. 17).
Smooth & Clean, the latte was just what I needed to perk me up. I would also recommend you try their ‘Geeks Latte’ that comes infused with a bit of coconut and the standard ‘Mocha” which tends to be my usual order here. The staff are super friendly and if you are looking for some peace and quiet, they have a quiet room upstairs that is free off noise.

DOSE CAFE

The “Salted Caramel Iced Latte” from @dosecafe_ksa happens to be my favourite Iced Latte here. The subtle hint of salted caramel really compliments the coffee but it can also make it a bit too sweet for those who do not like their coffee sweetened. Nothing like this on a hot summer day (or night). The outdoor seating is fabulous in winter and you will find it quiet packed during this period.

HASSEER CAFE

The location is great but i didn’t think much of the interiors and it felt neglected. I ordered the Nuts Coffee (w/ Peanut Butter) for SR. 20.
Great tasting coffee and the peanut butter was more prominent than the coffee itself(which is not a bad thing). This place can get quite crowded in the evenings so be prepared to wait for a good seating spot.

EQUAL COFFEE HUB

Located in Khobar corniche, this coffee joints boasts of having the best coffee in Al Khobar. The store is tastefully designed and decorated and you will always find this place crowded. Their latte’s are quite good and they also have their own merchandise. A separate seating area for families is also available.

The milk cakes on sale are quite a treat.

SPECIALITY BEAN COFFEE

DSC00146

One of the only few coffee shops with its own coffee roastery, selling a whole range of coffee with beans from Colombia, Ethiopia, etc. The people there know their coffee and will recommend the best depending on your tastes.

Their seating area is quite small and the chairs uncomfortable. If you are getting coffee to go and you live close to Khobar corniche, then this is the place to be.

DENSITY COFFEE ROASTERS

SHP01087

@densitycoffee opened up quite recently in Khobar and has quickly become a popular haunt. Located inside the Vilagio complex, it can extremely busy during the weekends which is why I decided to visit on a weekday.
This place makes it into my list of coffee joints to visit in Khobar thanks to the ambience and the delicious coffee and a roastery to boot.
The ‘Density Spanish Latte’ (SR. 22) is dense, creamy and sweetened to perfection. The coffee is smooth and can really pick you up!

AUGUST CAFE

There was a queue till the entrance & that was quite enough to conclude that @augustcafe.sa was a popular coffeeshop. It didn’t take too long to get in front of the queue even with the rush. I went for the “1 Million Iced Latte” (SR.22) which was a great tasting Latte, quite creamy which i believe was a hint of Ice cream and just enough ice to keep the Latte chilled 😍
Good Luck trying to find seating here, we had ours to go! Nothing fancy about the interiors either.

BOHEMIA ART CAFE

In the quest to find a quaint little coffee shop with artwork, I came across @bohemia_artcafe on @googlemaps offering what no other cafe has ever done, a space for Art, Coffee & Vinyl. They have their own independent record store if you head on upstairs which was something I had never come across in this part of the world.

The coffee menu is quite like every other coffee shop that has opened up in the last few years and it always comes down to the barista and the way he prepares the coffee.

The barista at @bohemia_artcafe definitely knew his coffee. We had ordered the Hot & Cold variant of the ‘Boheme Latte’ and sat down to enjoy a well brewed cup of coffee. There was a hint of caramel but nothing to overpower the taste of coffee with the milk warmed up just right. The cold latte was just as refreshing and I preferred this to the hotter version since this was a bit more refreshing considering the heat and humidity outside.

This is a great place to sit back, relax and enjoy some great music. I think I’ve found my new favourite, not so quaint coffee shop in Khobar.

BLUE STAR CAFE

The latest coffee shop to open up to the public is @bluestarcafe_k located close to Movenpick in Al Khobar.

Serving the usual ‘Hot & Cold’ Latte’s and a few munchies, this cafe is well lit naturally thanks to the wide open spaces surrounding it and tastefully decorated. I ordered the house favourite ‘Blue Star Latte’ which tasted quite like the ‘Spanish Latte’ from @densitycoffee.ksa but with milk that had been coloured blue.

I spent close to 3 hours here and what really makes this place stand out is that it’s open till 3am 😱

@foodingmyselfaround felt like this was a great place to hangout and I agree!
